Jennifer's Journey: Week 1

Written By admin • 3 min read

“Most Tuesday nights you can find me curled up on the couch with my dog, a fuzzy blanket and my two best friends, Ben and Jerry (as in Cookie Dough Ice Cream Ben and Jerry). We are anxiously awaiting the next installment of Biggest Loser and marveling at the transformations of the contestants. There is also the part where every week I resolve to “start tomorrow” to lose weight, exercise, be healthier and give up my beloved Diet Coke. “Tomorrow” never seemed to actually get here in the busy life of a mom of four kids.

One such relaxing evening subtly became a turning point in my life. I decided simply to look up the fitness camp advertised on TV while I dreamed how amazing it would be if I could spend some time just working on improving my health and fitness levels without all the distractions of home. That simple thought took root and has started me on an amazing journey of realizing some of those goals I set every week and would never follow through on.

After MUCH preparation and research I found a fitness camp that I thought was the best match for my goals and lifestyle-Premier Fitness Camp in Park City, UT- and here I am checking into a resort to begin intense fitness and nutrition training! I feel like it’s the first day of school all over again! Just in the first few days the amount of information you are taught here is incredible.

Things like one pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. So if I burn 5000 calories in a day and take in 1500 calories, I should lose one pound. While I am here all of the meals are prepared very carefully to keep your intake to between 1200-1500 calories per day. I now know what I have to burn every day to hit my goal for the week. Nutrition training is provided as well to help me take I am learning about here with me when I go home and continue on the right track.

The exercise program is INTENSE. As I spent half of my first day in orientation, my first workout here was outside learning exercises with resistance bands. By standing with your feet in the middle of the band, gripping the handles with your fingers facing forward and pushing straight up, you work your shoulder muscles. I could REALLY feel that one burn.

Our next workout was afternoon Boot Camp. This is set up with circuits or stations in which you do a different exercise for a set amount of time and move on to the next one. I am not going to lie, this was incredibly difficult for me. I noticed I was worn out fairly quickly and even a little dizzy. However; the trainers were encouraging, trying to get you to do just a little more than you thought you could. One of the trainers, Josh, reminded me I was still adjusting to the altitude and to breath through my nose. The dizzy feeling was gone within a few minutes.

I am really looking forward to spending time here. All the people here are so friendly and willing to help you whether it is finding where you are supposed to be next or offering a hand up. I am sharing a space with two roommates and it is so fun having some girl time! We have 28 people staying at camp this week and already I can tell I will leave here with new friends that will continue to support me after we are done at camp. This is just the beginning of a brand new life for a very anxious mom!” ~Jennifer

I am 37 years old and a mom of 4 beautiful daughters. I am a stay-at-home mom who is never HOME! I do some work from home helping my husband run his business. My weight was not a problem until I got pregnant and began having children. I have never completely lost that weight. I have tried different diets and felt like a yo-yo for the past 8 years! (see me on far right of picture)

A combination of things happened in my life to make me decide to make some major lifestyle changes and putting myself first, making healthy choices for me and my family. Please join me on my journey on several blogs: on the Premier Fitness Blog, on the TimeOutMom Blog, on the Mom It Forward Blog, and on the Today’s Mama Blog, as I do five weeks at the live-in camp and get twelve weeks of coaching and support after I return home. This is going to be life-changing! It is already life-changing!
